Japan export value to Botswana was about 3,186 million JPY with largely automobiles and machinery, Botswana export value to Japan was about 3,040 million JPY with mainly diamond (2018). Several Japanese companies are operating in Botswana and they have been contributing positively to Botswana's industries. The Embassy of Japan, in close cooperation with Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), encourages the healthy flow of trade and investment between Japan and Botswana.
The nearest office of the JETRO is located in Johannesburg.

In order to further promote and enhance economic relations between both countries, the Embassy received the delegation from the Japanese Business Federation (KEIDANREN) in 2016, and also held the Japan Business & Investment Mission to Botswana together with Botswana Investment & Trade Centre in 2017.

Dialogues in various business sectors are steadily intensified. From Botswana, government officials and representatives of the private sector including those of 13 private companies visited Japan in 2019 to participate in the TICAD7 meetings and side events held in Yokohama where they also had a chance to meet their Japanese counterparts and exchange ideas and information.
